Research Republic

Deliberative Democracy and the Role of Public Managers is the summation of the first phase of The Work Foundation's Public Value research programme, conducted in collaboration with Research Republic. It includes an in-depth analysis of the concept of Public Value and explores the 'democratic deficit' between public managers and citizens, suggesting democratic mechanisms for addressing it. This may be done, the report suggests, through reorienting the role of public managers in terms of their interaction with citizens and public opinion, and developing new mechanisms for measuring the responsiveness and legitimacy of public organisations based on Public Value.
